XL103- Excel 2007: Formulas, Functions, and Formatting

This is a two-hour workshop designed to increase your proficiency, and therefore your efficiency, with Excel 2007.

In this course, we will -

  • Review the more useful of Excel's 150+ keyboard shortcuts
  • Learn about operator precedence in formulas
  • Learn to use the power of Auto-fill
  • Cover when to use relative reference and when to use absolute reference
  • Use some of Excel's vast set of functions in formulas
  • Explore the expanded conditional formatting capabilities

The focus will be on using features that allow you to, as the cliché goes, work smarter, not harder.

A familiarity with  Excel is assumed.

XL102 - Create Great Charts With Excel 2007

This two-hour workshop will focus on Excel's ability to generate graphical representations of your data.  You will learn how to choose, and format the appropriate chart type from the 70+ available in Excel.

Topics will include -

  • Selecting the proper chart type
  • Scaling the axes
  • Using multiple axes
  • Customizing the chart
  • Including your chart in Word or PowerPoint

The focus will be on creating a chart that makes your message about the underlying data clear.

A knowledge of Excel is assumed.  XL101 above is a suggested, but not required prerequisite.

This is a two-hour workshop designed to increase your proficiency, and therefore your efficiency, with Word 2007.

In this course, we will -

  • Demystify the Word 2007 "ribbon" interface
  • Learn how to customize Word 2007 to match your work style
  • Introduce styles, style sets, and themes
  • Explore changes to the spelling and grammar checker
  • Discuss some of the internal changes for 2007, and how they affect you
  • The focus will be on using features that allow you to concentrate on the content rather than spending unnecessary effort on formatting.

A familiarity with Word is assumed.

This two-hour workshop will cover modifying the default styles and themes provided with Word, and how (and when) to create your own.  The use of Word templates will also be addressed.

PP101 - Give Great Presentations With PowerPoint 2007

This two-hour workshop will show you how to use PowerPoint's features to put together and deliver an effective presentation.

In this coures we will cover-

  • The new "ribbon" interface.
  • "Live Preview"
  • Themes (they have changed from PowerPoint 2003)
  • Smart Art (it is not just "eye candy") and how to use it with themes and animation
  • Animation techniques

A basic knowledge of PowerPoint is assumed

This two-hour workshop will help you avoid distributing weapons of misconstruction.  We will focus on improving your email effectiveness as both sender and recipient.  We will cover best practices for both the office environment and your personal email account(s).

In this course we will cover -

  • Managing incoming email
  • Composing your email.  Making your message clear.
  • Email no-no's
  •             Reply vs Reply all
  •             SHOUTING
  •             Eschew obfuscation
  •             Top vs. bottom posting
  •             And more...
  • Attachments - sending and receiving
  • Handling Spam
  • Avoiding Spam (as much as possible)
